About the Author

Hi, my name is Alvin - I’m an Engineer-turned-Project Manager who has taken the deep dive into Project Management.

I graduated with my Engineering degree from the University of California, San Diego, and over the years from working as an Engineer and a Project Manager, I have passed several Project Management Certifications which have helped me achieve a higher salary and advance professionally in my own career: Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM, Above Target in All Domains), Project Management Professional (PMP, Above Target in All Domains), and Professional Scrum Master (PSM). 

 

And, now I’m here to help you do the same, so that you can learn from all of my mistakes and achieve even better results than me in a much faster time!

 

I’m incredibly passionate about coaching, mentoring and teaching others to advance in their own career and inspiring those around me to be the best version of themselves. If I can do it, then I know you can do it as well!

Purpose of this Website

I created this website to share my personal experience and journey taking both the CAPM Exam and the PMP Exam. 

And along the way, sharing strategies I’m using to most effectively study for the exam and minimizing any mistakes & pitfalls. 

Instead of relying on tackling everything head-on, especially with my Engineering background, I firmly believe in creating a systematic approach that produces results. 

And, that’s what I want to share with you – my approach, my tips and tricks, and the strategies that I’m following to achieve success for passing both Project Management Certifications – CAPM Exam & PMP Exam:

  • Learn from my mistakes and my experiences, so you can accelerate your learning curve, and become a Certified Project Manager on your first try!
  • My goal is to help you along your Project Management Journey and help you succeed and pass your CAPM Exam & PMP Exam!

Why I Took the CAPM Exam & PMP Exam

Like so many other aspiring professionals out there, I want to take the next step towards advancing my career…

And for me, it’s the journey towards passing the PMP Exam, and becoming a Certified Project Manager.

According to PMI’s Project Management Salary Survey 11th edition, the salary in the United States for a non-PMP versus a PMP Certification holder was 25%!

Can you imagine that difference? $95,000 versus $120,000

And, of course, the median salary increases with the time & experience you have holding the PMP Certification.

So, is the PMP worth it?

I’ll let you be the judge based upon those numbers, but if studying for the PMP Exam can…

  1. Increase your skillset and ability to lead  teams 
  2. Improve your technical foundation for managing projects
  3. And, increase the likelihood that you’ll earn an additional $10,000 to $25,000 per year.

Our Journey to Becoming Certified Project Managers

I’ve passed my own CAPM Exam, PMP Exam, and Professional Scrum Master Certification Exams, and I know how hard it is to grow in your career.

I’m just a person who knows how hard it can be to study for an exam, while juggling so many priorities in life….

 Your family, work-life balance, your career, hobbies, and spending time with your loved ones. 

And, not to mention, taking these certification exams is not an easy task by any means.

People spends several months (4 months to even a year!) preparing for this test, and some even fail the first time around, due to the sheer volume of information and the complexity & difficulty around the PMP Exam.

A Few Fun Facts About Me

Fun Fact #1

I took piano lessons when I was growing up, and the first song I learned was “A Whole New World” from the Disney movie, Aladdin. 

Another fun note – the Piano Intro Music to all of Alvin the PM Youtube videos was written and recorded by me on my Yamaha Digital Piano (Yamaha DGX-660, with 88 Weighted Keys)

Fun Fact #2

My current weakness: Home-baked chocolate chip cookies, In-N-Out Hamburgers & French Fries, and Matcha Milk Green Tea.

Another fun note – When I was in middle school, I used to always order sweet potato french fries, almost every week.

Fun Fact #3

I learned how to swim in middle school, and I was a huge fan of Michael Phelps, especially when he competed during the 2004 Summer Olympics and won 8 Gold Medals! To this day, I’m amazed how athletes swim the butterfly or the free-style with such grace, tempo, and incredible velocity.

Fun Fact #4

I used to play Super Mario Kart, Street Fighter & Mortal Kombat on the Super Nintendo (SNES) game console growing up with my friends and family. Now, my guilty pleasure is playing Mario Kart on the Nintendo Switch.
